Since PTI’s Government has taken the house of affairs of Pakistan, we are witnessing some big changes in the sectors which were ignored before. From his early days when Imran Khan was a cricketer, he used to emphasize on the importance of trees. Pakistan is facing deadliest deforestation that is causing serious problems for climate. Since August 2018, many trees have been planted in Pakistan and the country is to witness ten billion tree plants too.
The climate of Pakistan is arid and the rocky deserts here are an unreal place to grow trees. Many parts of the country are facing the deficiency of water too. Still, the government has taken the initiative to begin the world’s largest reforestation program.
According to the Minister for climate change Mr Malik Amin Asam, 3.25 billion trees will be planted in the first phase at the cost of 105 billion rupees. Prime Minister Imran Khan is desirous to extend this program to 10 billion till the end of his term in 2023.
It seems that PTI’s Government is eager to follow the things that are in their manifesto 2018. The manifesto states,
“Will expand and restore the fractured forests of Pakistan through 1 ‘10 Billion Tree Tsunami’ spread over 5 years under principles of true forest valuation, community stewardship as well as public-private partnerships”.

The task mentioned in their manifesto is very big and difficult. Despite all difficulties, the government is determined to complete this project in an effective way. Pakistan is facing some serious climate changes that can cause floods and droughts.
“Unfortunately, we never cared about them. After the independence from the British, we have lost forests instead of adding to them”, Khan said at a tree-planting ceremony.
As mentioned before, Pakistan is also facing a deficiency of water. So, how will it manage to grow this many trees without water? The country is planting trees that need less water than the high water-consuming trees.
Imran Khan has also added nine new national parks that are the first addition after independence. In KPK during the 2013-2019, he increased the forest cover of the province to 27% from 20%.
Khan is trying his best to raise awareness among the common people regarding the importance of trees and forests in our lives. Here in Pakistan, trees are used as fuel and other purposes too. Deforestation rate was very high but now the Government is taking some big steps to curb this practice.
Country has a big coalfield where Pakistan inaugurated its biggest coal mine with the help of Chinese. The thing which is of main concern is that coal is one of the biggest polluters and it affects the climate. Now the government has made a plan to draw 30% of its power from the renewables by 2030.
Moreover, this tree plantation campaign has introduced thousands of jobs for the unemployed and needy people. In this way, the country and the nation will progress and Pakistan can rid of the climate changes that are getting worse day-by-day.
Imran Khan said,
“I am hopeful that we can save our nation. You go to Dubai, it’s all desert, they don’t have trees. Allah has given us everything, we just need to take care of it”.
