Gaddafi Stadium was named after Libyan leader and it’s world’s 5th largest cricket stadium. The building of Gaddafi stadium has designed by special fusion of Mughal architecture with blend of modern trends, by famous architect Nayyar Ali Dada.
The stadium houses headquarters of Pakistan Cricket Board and modern facilities for the media are provided there. The lower portion of stadium under the stands has been enclosed and converted to shops for boutiques, cafes and restaurants serving special Lahori food including Dera, Bashir Dar ul Mahi, Bundu Khan and a lot others. It was first stadium to be equipped with modern flood lights with their own stand by generators.
Pakistanis have enjoyed many of memorable moments in this ground. This stadium hosted the final match of the 1996’s World Cup, which was watched by over 60,000 spectators. It is one of the grounds , those are popular for its super energetic and crazy crowds, in sub continent.
