The Government of Punjab has started to take steps to move Walton Airport from Nishtar Road to another remote plot of the Government to establish a Central Business District at that place.
On 26th February, PM Imran Khan laid the foundation-stone of the Central Business District in Lahore. It is the country’s first-ever business district that is going to establish at Walton Airport, Lahore. Further, the main aim of this project is to have a commercial hub that provide the ease-of-doing-business.
In the ceremony, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the Central Business District project will generate an income of Rs. 1,300 billion in its first phase. He further hoped that the shifting of Walton Airport will turn the nearby areas into an economic hub.
He also explained that the Federal Government will get 250 billion rupees in taxes from the money generated through this project. PM Imran Khan emphasized that the projects that generate wealth are very important for the country’s economy. It will help the government to return the loans.
Imran Khan once again felt regret over the mismanagement of the economy in the previous governments. He feels that the economic pressure is due to the bad policies of his predecessors.
Talking about the Central Business District at Walton Airport, he said,
“In this project, huge tenders are involved and it will witness a major take off in a short span of time. It has the capacity to change Lahore into a modern city.”
While addressing the event, Imran Khan said that it is the hour of need to build high-rise buildings. It is an efficient way to manage a city like Lahore and it will stop its expansion. He further said that if they failed to build high-rise buildings in the cities like Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi then it will not be possible to manage these cities.
Earlier in the ceremony, the Chief Minister of Punjab Mr Usman Buzdar also shared his views with the public. He said that the PTI’s Government has accomplished another milestone by laying the foundation of the Central Business District in Lahore.
According to him, this mega project will be constructed in three phases. The occupied land is about 300-acres. Its design will complete in accordance with the PM’s vision of environmental protection.
He also vowed to pay attention to the plantation of trees, establishing parks and green areas, health clubs and administrative buildings in this project.
The Government of Punjab had previously announced the zoning of the Central Business District for industrial, retail, and residential purposes, as well as the relocation of Lahore’s Walton Airport to another remote plot.
The Central Business District will spearhead the business activities in Lahore. Moreover, CBD’s establishment under the CM Punjab was approved in January.
