China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, better known as CPEC, is the framework of connection between China and Pakistan. This corridor connects one region of the world with another. This regional connectivity will not only benefit Pakistan and China but Afghanistan, India, Iran and other Asian countries.
CPEC has gained solid importance in the region. After its inaugural and till now, many new roads are included in the CPEC. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a new hope of better employment, economic stability and development. Here is the information on new roads that are included in the CPEC.
New Roads in CPEC
1. KKH Phase II (Thakot – Havelian Section)
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the construction of a new road is in progress that will start from Havelian and end at Thakot. It is 118 kilometres long project that comprises 39 km 6 Lane Access Controlled MW and 79 km Class-II Highway.
This road is constructing under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications that is a part of the Government of Pakistan. The implementing agency is National Highway Authority.
Cost
The estimated cost for KKH Phase II (Thakot – Havelian) is about $1,315 million.
2. Peshawar-Karachi Motorway (Multan-Sukkur Section)
The Multan-Sukkur Motorway is part of the longest Peshwar-Karachi Motorway in Pakistan. It is 392 kilometres long and starts from Multan and the endpoint is Sukkar.
This project has a 6 Lane Access Controlled Motorway. The Ministry of Communications is supervising this project and National Highway Authority is implementing it.
Cost
The cost that came on this project was $2,889 million.
3. Khuzdar-Basima Road N-30
Khuzdar is a district located in the Balochistan Province, Pakistan. The Khuzdar-Basima Road is a 2-lane highway. Moreover, this highway starts from Basima and ends at Khuzdar.
The length of the project is 110 kilometres. Its executing company is National Highway Authority (NHA) while the supervising agency is Ministry of Communications.
Cost
The estimated cost of Khuzdar-Basima Road is about 19.19 Billion Rupee.
4. Upgradation of D.I Khan-Zhob N-50 Phase – I
The 210 kilometres long D.I Khan-Zhob highway is in the up-gradation process. The 2-lane existing road will be in 4-lanes after upgradation. Furthermore, in near future, 100m R.O.W will be acquired by the government agencies to extend it to 6-lanes.
Cost
The total estimated cost of this upgradation project (construction + land acquistion) is about 36 Billion rupee.
5. KKH Thakot-Raikot N-35
The KKh Thakot-Raikot N-35 remaining project is under process. The project is supervised under the Ministry of Communications and is expected to begin soon.
