Electric vehicles are the future and after the National Electric Vehicle Policy, Pakistan is going to have some electric cars that will be a test case for the Pakistani automobile industry.
Its 2021 and the world is seeing humongous changes that are switching people’s lives rapidly. Most of the world’s automobile industry has shifted to manufacture electric vehicles that are more environmental friendly than the cars run on petrol or diesel.
Tesla is probably the largest developer of electric cars. The concerns of climate change and global warming are increasing so the people are inclining towards purchasing electric cars. The automakers have started developing electric cars and they are also offering handsome offers to clients.
Talking about Pakistan, like the other technological advancements in different fields, Pakistan is lagging here too. Now, Pakistani automotive industry is witnessing a slow change and there is an appreciation for electric cars.
Down here is a list of few electric cars that will be available soon in the automobile industry of Pakistan.
MG ZS EV
Morris Garages have entered in the Pakistani Automobile industry and has launched 3 in the country in the last year. The models of Morris Garages introduced in Pakistan are the HS, ZS 1.5 and ZS EV SUV’s. The company has received around 10,000 orders for the petrol variant HS.
Morris Garages will start the booking for ZS and ZS EV very soon. ZS EV is the electric version of the ZS SUV. It consists of a 44.5 kWh battery. There is a single motor that powers the front wheels and the SUV produces 105 kW and 30 Nm of torque. Moreover, the company has claimed a good range of 262 km in one battery cycle.
The MG ZS EV can be fast-charged at public places through a Combined Charging System (CCS) whereas at home it can be charged with a type 2 7.4 kW AC charger.
Significantly, the main features of the car are parking sensors, daytime running lights, infotainment system, and much more.
Audi e-Tron
In March 2020, Audi Pakistan launched their Audi e-Tron fully electric and mid-sized luxury crossover SUV in Pakistan. Audi’s e-Tron is the first electric car to be launched in Pakistan after the National Electric Vehicle Policy.
The only model being offered is the base 50 Quattro model that comes with a 71 kWh lithium-ion battery. It is claimed to give a range of around 300 kilometres in a single charge. The e-Toron has a dual motor setup at its both axels that equip it with the four-wheel-drive capability.
The combination of both the motors at the axels produce a total of 402 hp and 664 Nm of torque. The car comes with a standard 22 kW charging system that charge the car in 5 to 6 hours. The standard charging system is installed at the user’s home.
Lastly, Audi is giving an 11 kW portable charger that can charge the car on the go. Other features of e-Tron includes the airbags, stability control and ABS.
Zotye Cloud 100
Zotye is a privately owned Chinese Automobile company and has launched several cars since 2005. After the approval of National Electric Vehicle Policy, Zotye planned to launch their Z100 EV in Pakistan.

The Zotye Z100 is subcompact hatchback which is imported by Topsun Motors in Pakistan. The shape of Z100 is very similar to seventh-generation Suzuki Alto. Zotye Cloud 100 is expected to have a 27 kW motor at the front axle driving the front wheels and it produces 140 Nm of torque.
The battery of the car is 17.76 kWh which manages to claim a travel range of 155km in a single charge. The battery will take 6-8 hours to fully charge using a 220V standard power supply.
BMW iX
The latest car in the list of electric cars is the BMW’s iX that is introduced in November 2020. This car features a 100 kWh battery and the claim of range is about 600 kilometres. There is a motor on each axle same like Audi e-Tron which makes it a four-wheel-drive car.
The car reaches to the speed of 100 km/h from 0 in just 5 seconds. You can charge your BMW iX with two ways: first is to charge it with the 200 kW DC fast charger and the other one is to charge it with 11 kW AC charger. While it is fully charged in 11 hours with 11 kW AC charger and 10% to 80% in 40 minutes using the fast charger.
Furthermore, BMW’s iX is the first car to come with 5G connectivity and is fully packed with the iDrive and driver aid suite.

The electric cars are the future of the automobile industry in Pakistan, as they are climate-friendly and can help to reduce the global warming. Moreover, the electric cars are cheaper to maintain and they are even better than the hybrid cars. Other than the mentioned cars above, there are other companies that are seriously interested to launch their electric vehicles in Pakistan including Hyundai, Nissan and Renault. So, we can expect a boom in the sales of electric cars in the near future.
